Over Two Weeks between posts

Whats up with that??? Oh yea, its time to be OUTSIDE!!!! And even though I have a wireless connection for my laptop, I have yet to take it out on the back patio this year. Not a lot has happened. I still try to take some sunrise shots, but now that the sun is getting up before I make it out the door, it makes it difficult. This one was taken by the old celenese plant in Millhaven...just as I was taking the picture, a pair of ducks waddled by.

I did manage to get a better pictures, through the trees:

On Thursday May 5th, I had the pleasure of getting a front row seat for a kick-ass show by The High Dillon Redemption Choir. Hugh was once in a band called The Headstones, and this new band includes an old acquaintence of mine on drums. Here he is, my own personal King of Kensington: Derek Downham! I think he lost his stix in this picture.

Here is one of the entire band:

Hugh's new CD was recorded last August at The Bath House and produced by Paul Langois, of the Tragically Hip. Here is a picture of Paul playing with HDRC.

For the encore, they played Rebel Yell. I like the way someones upright arm appeared in this picture during this Billy Idol cover.

Last Sunday, my brother and his fiancee came over for the day. It was Mother's day, so we went down to the graveyard to lay a flower on our mother's grave. Afterwards we went over to my cousin Wendy's place for a BBQ. Here is a picture of my brother with his bubbles glasses on.

So while at Wendy's, I took full advantage of their hot tub...in fact, I was the only one to take a dip.

Of course, we had to try and take a family picture before the day was through...even the dog Bailey posed for the camera!

Believe it or not, the highlight of this past weekend was my trip to Burt's Greenhouse in Wilton. It was a damp, misty day and what do I come across? This beautiful vintage Farmall Cub. Check it out!

This was taken while I was waiting to check out.

On my way back from the greenhouse, I stopped in to visit my friend Laurie. Here is a picture of her beautiful limestone house that they will be moving out of in October.

I really like this shot from the inside, looking out:

and finally, this is a picture of Laurie's barn. Hopefully, I will get inside there, before they move out. I bet there are some really great shots inside this old building!

FINALLY it is May!!!

The boat is in the driveway, it has been to the marine shop last week & has been given the thumbs up to enter the water, safely:) Last year, we were a bit too anxious & launched her the first weekend of May. There was an additional spot to put oil in the motor that was not documented in the literature for the motor & we ended up being towed home as the motor conked out on us after 45 minutes. Thank God we were just across the bay from the marina and were fortunate to call there with the cell phone & they came and rescued us! It took 2 months to repair/replace the lower unit & it was a lesson learned to never push the boating season!

This is 2 of the young guys from the marina who were kind enough to pull us in. When they pulled up beside us, the one has a smoke hangin out of his mouth & I laughed as I tossed him the rope & called him 'relic'. He didn't know what I was talking about!

Nothing much happened this week except for my trip to the roof of the building I work in. I was gazing out the windows on the 4th floor at the beautiful view of the city & wondered how to capture that beauty without getting the glare off the windows. I asked the facility guys if there was any way I could get out on the ledge someone to take some shots. They said I could get up on the roof if I liked. Well, if they hadn't said that I had to go right at that moment, it may not have happened. I didn't realize till I got up there that I am terrified of heights. Anyways, I got up there...tried to take a few panoramic shots, which didn't work out very well. I had only used the pano mode once before and this time I was shaking like a leaf. But this is how it turned out:

Perhaps I will borrow a better camera from our Nikon department and take some better pictures from up there when the leaves arrive on the trees! I'm hoping to have a bit more courage this time:)
Our Friday night routine always starts at the restaurant in Bath for dinner with our friends and then out to Possum Lodge for some garage entertainment by our friend Harly:) The sun was just going down as we arrived & I tried the panoramic setting on my camera again. This shot turned out a bit better.

Now, it was suppose to rain all day today, but the sun is out \and the clouds have disappeared, so I'm thinking I better get my very best diggin-in-the-dirt clothes on & get up close and personal with my gardens!
This coming week I have VIP passes to see The Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir @ the Elixir Night Club...I can hardly wait!!!! No doubt there will be a few pictures in my blog next week of this GREAT new band:)

The week flew by

I'm glad actually, there is less than 30 days now till May 2-4 weekend and only a few weeks till we put the boat in the water...WHOO HOOO!! In fact, I think the boat is being taken to the mechanic on Wednesday morning and will be home here by Friday. Guess we better find out when we can put the boat in the slip:)

So for the past few weeks, mister Christmas took a picture of me with colour in my hair, then he threatened to put said picture in the paper on the 19th for our anniversary. Naturally, he wouldn't be insane enough to do something like that and think he would live to tell the tale. 6 A.M. Tuesday morning, I wake, race to the front door to grab the paper and find this instead:

Is that sweet? He is such a romantic...I am truly blessed. After I was done with the tears from the pictures, he hands me a beautiful anniversary ring. The day went by in a blur. I was walking on a cloud all day! 25 years has gone by very quickly; it must be due to the fact that I am happy and healthy.
Lets see, what else happened this week? Oh yea, my boss came in for a visit with her two kids. Christy will be coming back to us on August 15th!! Wheee, that's only 113 days!

And last but not least, some sunrise shots.
This one is neat as it looks like the sun is coming up in the shape of a tube:

and i like this sunrise filter, especially when there is no wind on the lake. It almost looks like the water is in morph-mode:)

This past weekend sucked weather-wise...i cleaned closets and did laundry and rearranged rooms. Now I'm beat!

Summer is fast approaching

I cant believe the beautiful weather we have had the past few weeks. What a treat to be able to sit out in the sun without a jacket and mitts on! Bring it on!

This past week flew by in a blur. I barely had time to take any pictures, can you imagine that? Thursday morning I stopped at the little park by Millhaven Pen and took a pictures of the cloudy sunrise. Its hard to believe that pollution is causing all these beautiful pink sunrises and sunsets.

In case anyone wants to know that the world looks like at 5:45 in the morning, I took the liberty of taking a few shots down at Fairfield park on Friday morning on my way to the pool:)

Friday night we went out with our friends for dinner, then attended our Friday night lodge meeting out at Harly and Judys place. The sun was just going down when we got there, so I could resist playing around with reflective shots. They didn't really work, but I managed to get this nice shot.

Saturday morning I got up early to make a trip into town to buy some new swim goggles at Canadian Tire. I also made a trip over to Wally World, which was a mistake...the place was jammed at 8:30 on a Saturday morning for cripes sake!

I took this picture at Parrots Bay on the way home from the crazy city.

This was taken at the lakeside park across from the Invista Plant in Millhaven.

Yesterday was spent doing yard work and relaxing and planning to get the boat out of storage next weekend!

Sewin' away the time ...

I have found pictures of my Mom together with this man named Norm, right up to September 1957. One month before my parents were married.

When I read through the numerous letters this man sent my mother, I deduct that my mother was to marry Norm right up till August 1957. So there lies my mystery. Why did my mother, who was never one to make decisions without completely researching all avenues first, drop Norm to marry the boy, who's family had just moved into the Loyalist Hotel right next door? Does anyone know the answer?? If so...will you let me know too??!! Its the one thing that has been driving me insane.
As I have mentioned before, my parents moved into my Grandparents basement around the time I was born. I know this picture was taken by the back door in my first residence.

Reelin in the years

I'm trying to string these old pictures that I scanned, into some sort of story of my life. Yes, it sounds insane, but it needs to be documented somehow.
The local newspapers like to get pictures like this for their 'remember when' columns. This is the Bath Majorettes. My Mom is in the first row, far left and her sister, my aunt Dianne is in the back row, third from the left. My Grandmother and a lady named Lucy Kirkham used to 'train' the Bath Majorette troupe for many years. I remember having to go through the routines myself, preparing for the Bath Canada Day parade. I think back then, we called it Dominion day though.

This blog will be the " Cathy Jane Beazer Christmas: This is YOUR Life " Column.
I know that my Dad is the dark haired gent on the far left of this pictures but I have no idea who the other people are. It seems strange that my Dads foot has a large bandage around it.

My Grandmother Guthrie moved her family of five from Millhaven to the Bath Telephone office in the early 1950's. I call this picture "Grandma as Ernestine". I'm guessing this shot was taken between 1951-1956.

I know this girls name is Gail, she was a friend of my mom's... i think her last name was Rattray. This is a typical 50's pose I believe...In front of a car:)

Here is another picture of Gail and her friend and my parents:

My Dad did a lot of construction jobs over the years, I have a feeling this picture was taken in Newfoundland, as he referred to the place a lot in his letters he sent home to my Mom just after the married in 1957.

This is my Grandfather Mac Guthrie. He owned the garage on the corner of the main street and the county road, just a few blocks from the Telephone Office that my Grandmother moved into.

Although I have never been told this, I am assuming that this is how Gladys Lewis (My mothers mother) met Mac Guthrie. Confirmation needs to be clarified on this, but I think that they married on New Years Day 1957. My folks were married the same year in October. How odd that must have been for my Mom to be a newlywed the same time as her mother:) My aunt, Carolee Jenny Guthrie appeared on the scene on February 3rd 1958 and I was born 22 months after that on January 17th 1960. No wonder people thought Carolee and I were sisters as we lived in the same house for a few years before my parents house. My Grandmother Guthries house was just up the hill from ours, so when I wanted to run away from home, I took my old sheepdog 'boots' and ran away to Grandma's for the afternoon:)
Here is a picture of my parents in my Grandmothers front yard on Summerset crescent in Houghton Park in Bath. This was the first type of subdivision in the area. My Grandfather Guthrie started working at C.I.L. and I guess buying a house in the suburb's was the thing to do back then. Like I have mentioned before, after I was born, we had an apartment in the basement of my grandparents house till we bought our house on Westbury Avenue.

6 days later ...

Who was I trying to fool when I said I would keep my blog updated on a regular basis?? Once the warm weather gets here, I don't spend a lot of time in front of the yaptop.

Last week started off with me sleeping in (as i lost an hr of sleep and forgot to set my alarm on Sunday night) on Monday and missing my 6:30 morning swim. Time changes always effect my sleep patterns. And besides, I was up late watching the Junos on Sunday night. So there's all my excuses:)

This is a strange picture, Emmy and Jethro sitting on the same piece of furniture without having a hissing match!

We have a few new hire classes going on at work and one of our new recruits was once on the British police force...a bobby i guess they are called. This new guy brought in his hat so his trainer had to strut around the 4th floor like he was King Funky Tut :) Thanx for permission to publish this picture on my blog Robin :)

Friday morning, I stopped to take a few pictures on my way to the pool. Man its so nice to see the ice a thing of the past!!

After work, I met Billy at the Legion for a beer before we went to the last chance for dinner. Of course Jimmy had to garbage-pick a few memorable items on his way down to the restaurant. Can you guess what this is?

After dinner we went to Harly and Judys for a bombfire.

Here is a shot of the creek behind possum lodge:

Today Billy did his share to deplete the ozone layer in our backyard by spray painting our new garbage chairs.

I have been scanning all weekend

I had a pile of over 200 pictures (most are black and whites) that I wanted to get scanned. Even though there is a small amount of drywall dust under the glass of scanner, which shows up on some pictures, I knew I had to devote a day or so to get those pictures in digital format.
Even though I do not know who the people are in a few of the pictures, I cant resist capturing them. A lot of these pictures will be sent off to my few remaining family members who might be able to shed a light on where some shots were taken and who these unfamiliar faces are. Perhaps I have even more family members that have been hidden from me.
Anyways, I found all these marvelous pictures in the stash that my Mom hid away for so many years. Here is a picture of my Mom that was taken in New Brunswick before they moved to Kingston in 1949. I believe the shot captures a young girl turning her back on a place that she would prefer to forget. Can you imagine this, my Grandmother escaped a bad marriage by moving out with her four small children to make a better life for them in another province. No small feat indeed. These women I transcend from were made from very tough stock.

I believe that this is one of the oldest pictures I have of my Mother. It looks like she is around 4 or 5 years old so that mean this picture was taken in 1940 or so. I remember my Mother telling me a tale of this old house they once lived in that burned down. Everything was lost except the fireplace. I believe this is the same fireplace in the background.

This is one of my Grandmother (Gladys) with her friend Kay in New Brunswick. This picture is quite clear considering it was taken in the 1940's.

Here is one last picture of Mom, Diane, Ken and Ron before they migrated to Ontario.

When my grandmother moved to Ontario, they stayed with my Great-Grandmother Kerrigan on Raglan Road. I still don't know which house it was that they lived in, but it is ironic that my brother now lives in the same neighbourhood!
This is my Mom and her sister Dianne in 1949.

Inside a fold-out frame I discovered this gem. I think it was taken by the old Millhaven ferry dock as my Grandmother moved the family out to Millhaven around 1950.

My Mom and Dad in the early 50's on Millhaven ferry dock. I do not know who the other two people are in the picture though.

Alright, that's enough for now. Hope I didn't put anyone to sleep:)
