Looking east from the waterfront across from Millhaven Pen.
From the top of the Brock Street parking lot.

And this is inside the parking lot. I tried out the black and white setting on the camera for this one.

Left work early ... Couldn't resist taking a few pictures on a bright, sunny day!

I had an appointment at the dieu, so I figured I might as well blow off the rest of the afternoon & take some pictures in the glorious sunshine!

Today was a good day as I actually got up on time and made it to the pool by 6:15. Now I can only hope that I can follow the same pattern on Wednesday and Friday.

Today was a definite reminder that Spring is just around the corner. Maybe I should figure out my summer holidays soon...Just so there wont be a conflict with my co-workers:)

We went to the Loyalist Cove Marina's annual skating party on Saturday. Check out the size of the rink!
This is Charlie. He is the one of the canine mascots at the Loyalist Cove Marina.
There was a rainbow around the sun yesterday.

The sun is out & it looks like I will spend the day inside:(

Good gawd....I spent the day outside yesterday and I'm exhausted! I slept for 11 hours and I still have colour in my cheeks from yesterdays skating party at the marina. Perfect conditions for taking pictures, and between Billy & I, we took about 250 of them:)

Today may just be the day of rest I always wished for. Although I do have to go make a drug run to Amherstview for my very ill husband. Men are such babies when they get a cold!

A Quickie

So I'm trying to stir chilli, vacuum, do laundry, dust & type...what an amazing multi-tasker I am.

Last night we had an impromptu birthday party for Bill at The Last Chance...even the proprietor came out with the cake and candles and we all sang and embarrassed the hell out of my little vegtabilly :) Dammit, I cant believe I forgot my camera. It was cute, and something the old boy needed to perk him up a bit!

This morning we were up at 7, at foodie b's by 8, breakfast with Wendy and Shaun by 9 and back home by 10. The big skating party starts at noon & we want to be down there around 1, I think. Should have some good pictures to post tomorrow as it is bright and fairly clear today.

Three more months

And it will be the end of April. May is the beginning of boating season and I can hardly wait! We are putting a downpayment on our slip at the marina this weekend at their annual skating party. This will be the beginning of the best summer ever. No need to unload and load everytime we want to go out on the water! I guess this means that we will be out each and every night of the week and all weekend long! WOOT!

Where has this week gone? Its Thursday night already. Don't get me wrong, I love weekends...I just cant believe that tomorrow is Friday already! Oh yea...its Bill's 49th birthday tomorrow. We are suppose to meet a bunch of our friends for dinner down at the Last Chance, but he has a bad cold & unless he is better tomorrow, we wont be going anywhere.

Tuesday is the first day of February; the shortest month of the year!
Once again, its cold outside, so its time to remember the summer:) This a view from the stern of our boat as we were leaving the black river cheese factory in prince edward county!

The best of both worlds! My husbands cooking and my beloved iron!
On my way to work on Tuesday morning, the moon was sliding away as the sun was rising. I thought this was a good a place as any to take a picture of the almost-full moon!
I went to see Betablokka last night at a Tsunami Benefit show at Stages.

Its Wednesday night and this old gurl is exhausted!

I was pretending to be a kid yesterday...thinking I could get up at 5, work 8 hrs, come home, get ready to go out, boogie out to the 401 & pick up a friend & carry on into Stages (a local nightclub) for a Tsumani Benefit Concert to see one of my favourite bands named Betablokka. Unfortunately the weather was not co-operating and the snow was beginning to fall before the show started. This kept a lot of people away. We pretty well had the place to ourselves. It felt kind of strange going up to the stage with my friend Betti, as we were the only ones up there in front of the band.
The show ended around 12:00 but due to the white out conditions, I didn't make it home till 1:30am! The 401 was non-existent as you could not see the pavement let alone the white or yellow lines. It was actually frightening. I'm glad my friend Ted kept babbling to keep my mind off the risk we were taking by traveling in those dangerous conditions!
Today we received an email from the marina inviting us to a skating party at the marina on Saturday. I'm sure we will go, not to skate but maybe just to hang out and take some pictures. I had fun doing that last year! Sun and snow always make for the perfect picture-taking environment.
Its almost 9pm and I think this old girl better get some sleep. I still cant believe I survived the day on only 4 hrs sleep!

Sun trying to set on King Street.
One of the most amazing sunrise's so far this year!

I swam a half a mile this morning before 7 am:)

Yes, I did it! Got up at 5, started my car at 5:30, entered the pool at 6:30 and to work by 8! Did I mention that it was -28 when I got up this morning? Brrrrrrrr

After I left the pool, I stopped by the filtration plant in Amherstview again as the sun was coming up bright pink and it was reflecting on the bare patches of ice. So beautiful!

Tonight, on the way home, the sun was in a haze. I took a few pics of it as I was traveling west on King street. It almost looked like the haze in the summertime.

Tomorrow night I am going to Stages to see Betablokka & Bullmoose play at a Tsunami benefit concert. A bunch of girls are meeting at Sol Latino before the show for a special coffee!!! No doubt I better get the laundry AND the ironing done tonight:)

I'm sure my camera is going to get a workout tomorrow night...hope everyone likes band pictures:)

Emmie yowling at Jethro! A couple of lazy cats on a Sunny afternoon!
I am Canadian!!!!
I love Barns!
We took a drive today and when I looked up the road, the stacks from Hydro plans had pristine white billows of steam coming from them. When I got home and downloaded the pictures, I laughed when I realized that it looks like the steam is coming from the telephone poles that were in the way:)
Smile!!!! This is a few of our 'old' friends having dinner at The Glenagle in Kingston. My brother Steven and his fiancee Stephanie are chefs there. They created a fantastic meal for us, accompanied with a rare form of entertainment :)
Im such a backseat driver!!! Man I'm glad someone else was driving us to Kingston On Saturday night. Thanx Rick!
This is a shot taken from my friend's Jim & Brenda's kitchen.

I'm glad we only have one shovel!!!

Last night we went out to the Gleneagles for dinner with 6 of our friends. It was an awful night out but we decided to make the trip into town anyways. Our dinner was just lovely and my brother and his fiancee entertained all of us. I know we will be back there for many more meals. So filling and so tasty!

Poor Billy had to shovel my car out for me today. We came home in a snowstorm late last night and the wind was just howling all night. This morning, it had calmed, somewhat and the sun was out brightly all day long!

If it isn't -40 tomorrow morning, I plan on going for a swim before work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that normal temperatures may return to area SOON!

This is the ferry track about 10 mins after the boat has left the dock. If you follow the trail of steam, you can almost see the ferry!
Millhaven Bridge as viewed from the ferry dock.
Even a critters nest can look appealing with a dark blue background!
I stopped at Fairfield Park yesterday and quickly snapped a few scenery shots. It was so flippin' cold I didnt stick around for long!
My cat Jethro loves to perform for the camera. I swear this animal was a true sun worshipper in a previous life.

It was -25 C this morning when I got up!

Isn't that something! I'm sick of this winter weather already, and its only really been cold for a week now. Man, the lake just froze on Monday! It seems ironic that we can hardly wait for the ice to leave and boating season to start!

Yesterday I had the day off work, so I basically relaxed in the morning and had a doctors appointment in the afternoon in Napanee. Get this...*I* cooked a nice dinner for my husband last night! He was impressed, to say the least. I baked a few potatoes, bbq'd meatballs in the oven and stirfried some mushrooms, garlic, onions, cauliflower, spinach & hot peppers. It was actually good. But, I made the mistake of actually touching the cut pepper and hours later I attempted to take my contact lenses out. OUCH! Even today my eyes were watering while I put those little pieces of plastic in my eyes.

This morning we took off for foodie b's at 7:45 and went out for breakfast afterwards. The house was freezing when we got back home....2 hrs later I'm still wrapped up in a blanket with 4 sweaters on.

Tonight we are joining 8 other friends for a dinner out at the Gleneagles at 7PM. This should be fun...I hope its warm in there!

I took this as the sun was setting today just across the road from the the kingston airport.
This is a little park at the end of gore road. It was such a beautiful sunny afternoon today, I had to find a new spot to take pictures. The Cataraqui River has been frozen for a month now.
This is prior to sunrise this morning. I took this down by the water filteration plant off highway 33 in amherstview. The boulders give the whole picture a bit of border.
I should reproduce this in black and white as the scene looks rather historic if you just view the buildings on the right hand side of the road:)
This is a view of the snowstorm blowing across the Lasalle Causeway yesterday.Normally I can see city hall very clearly from this distance.

now the lake is totally frozen!!!!

I stopped by the water filteration plant in amherstview this morning and took a few pictures of the sun sliding up the horizon and the ice! The weather was much nicer today than the snowstorm we had yesterday. I was crazy enough to just randomly take pictures as I was driving home yesterday afgternoon. I just hit the repeat button on the top of the camera and let her rip!

Tomorrow is my mandatory day off. So my pay next week will be short by 8 hrs. No doubt, with the taxes, I will probably make the same as I usually do over a two week period!

The lake is starting to freeze!

Yesterday was my birthday

The big 45! Woot! Nothing really exciting happened during the day. I went swimming in the morning, first time in over a month. Then work. After work I met up with my friends Shayne and Stephanie at the Gleneagles where my brother and his fiancee work. I haven't seen Shayne since mid November, so that was a special treat to be able to hang out with him again. Then my old friend Scoobie appeared on the scene, bought us all a drink, had a bit of a chat and then we all left. It was the way I would have wanted my day to evolve. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures.

Today was -22 when we got up! What a difference a day makes! Finally the lake is starting to freeze. I slid down by the celeanse plant on my way to work to take a few pictures of the steam coming off the water. Frankly, it was so cold the shutter was sticking on the camera, therefore all the pictures turned out kind of hazy.

I'm hoping it will be bright and sunny on Friday as I have the day off and would like to travel around and take some pictures. What a boring lifestyle I lead!

"The Gap". This is picture was taken by the hydro plant, looking south towards grapee island.

Sunday Sunday

Billy went to the Boat Show in Toronto yesterday, and with him went my camera. Out of need, I dug out my old 'broken' camera, put some charged batteries in and voila...IT WORKED! Unfortunately it was almost too cold to get outside in the sun and snap some pictures, but I forced myself out the door and drove west, along the lake. In a few months, I should be traveling this same stretch of water via boat. It almost looks like the lake is not going to freeze this winter.

Today we went for a quick drive out to Wilton, bought some curd, drove around the backroads of centerville for awhile, stopped at my cousin wendys house for a few minutes to grab all the stuff we left there christmas day and then came home.

Next weekend we are going to The Gleneagles with Ken and Cheryl and a few others. I have to drop off some stuff to Steven at the Restaurant tomorrow, so hopefully I can make a reservation then:)

Im almost thinking of hitting the pool tomorrow morning...we will see if I manage to wake up in time!

Bubbles, Ed and 2 of the three members of RUSH! Check out Bubbles T-Shirt! I swear its original. He wore it on one of the TPB shows where he played a roadie for the band! Posted by Hello
Close up of the freezing rain on one of my vines.

Once again I skipped off work early

So I took a few pictures while the sun was still up. The one is of a section of my old vine that was still covered from ice from the storm 2 days ago.

Last night we watched the Canada for Asia special on the CBC. What an amazing show with fabulous sound! Tom Cochrane arranged it and in 5 days he managed to gather such well known acts like Bryan Adams, Anne Murray, Jann Arden, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, Bruce Cockburn, The Tragically Hip, Marc Jordan, Daniel Lanois, Sam Roberts, Celine Dion, The Trews & David Usher. The highlight of the night for me was Rush performing "Closer to the Heart" with Ed Robertson (Barenaked Ladies) & Bubbles (Trailer Park Boys)joining them in the studio. Bubbles had on an 'old fly by night' tshirt on that I swear is original!

Tonight we are off to the Last Chance Cafe for dinner with our friends. Our usual Friday night rendez-vous:) Tomorrow I get to clean, vacuum and do laundry while Bill & the boys saunter off to the boat show in Toronto for the day!

I managed to take a few pictures today!

As it was actually above zero today! Wheee :) I left work early enough to take some pictures in the daylight. The first place I stopped was at an old limestone church that I have admired everyday from afar. This little church was build in 1843, and obviously the quality of the workmanship has held up quite well over the years:) I really have to visit that pretty little village on a nice sunny day..There are so many beautiful old homes there that need to have their pictures taken by little old me!

Then I stopped at my favourite snap-shot-spot, parrots bay, by the floating bridge. The sun was going down and trying really hard to break through the heavy cloud cover. Its kind of amazing that there was not even a skim over of ice in that cove, but I guess it was too windy for that today.

The Canada for Asia concert is on tonight on the CBC. Looks like the laptop is going to get a well-deserved break tonight.

HEY...Tomorrow is FRYday...rawk on!!

What a crappy day outside

Freezing rain all afternoon....yuck! It took me almost half an hr just to get the ice off my car before I could drive home. We had to dress up today for work, as some big wigs were in town, so I had to put on my dress coat and forgot to grab my gloves. It was a real treat scraping with barehands.

We got an email from the Marina today saying we have a slip there for this coming summer...All we have to do is reserve it with a deposit of $250 by January 31st! Jebus, happy birthday to us:)

I found a sure fire way to feel warmer during this bone-shimming weather...checking out my pics from last summer:

Cant wait to hang out on the dock at the cottage...only 4 months till May!

I missed the entire day today

I went to work in the dark and came home in the dark. 10 hrs at work gets to you, but I had to make up my hours for taking yesterday afternoon off.

That being said, there was no time for taking pictures. But I did have my hands on a nice Nikon 5400 that one of our IT guys bought through work. Perhaps when I get 450$ extra bucks, I will buy one too:)

My new years resolution should have been to get my pictures in order. That's an idea I would love to pursue, as time-consuming as it would be!

This is my second attempt at today's post

I had an appointment at the Dieu this afternoon, so I started work at 7 and left at 1. I like those short days! Once I had arrived at the parking lot I drove to the top. I figured I might as well take advantage of the escalated view of the city. I think I got my 50 cents worth!

This blog ritual is getting rather time consuming. Take pics, download, resize, crop, rename, upload, write your daily diary, try and figure out how to post with the picture IN the post. Well I still haven't succeed at the last one, but when I get time, I will dig through the help files.

Yes, its a diary, but I'm going to need this when I get older (ha) to assist my memory. That's if I can actually find this Blog!

This is my friend Andrew and I hangin' out at the Last Chance cafe.

sunday is the day of rest????

Today wasnt a great day to run out and take pictures as it was very overcast. I got a call from my old friend Weezie, inviting Bill & I to join her and her husband Mike and their son Andrew for breakfast. We had already eaten and Bill didnt feel like going out, so I popped down to the Last Chance for a visit.
I think the last time I saw Andrew was last March! Time flies! this little man has grown in leaps and bounds...and he RUNS!!! Jebus, the last time I saw him he couldnt even walk! So I managed to snap 69 pics of him and sent them off to his Mom. I know people always appreciate pictures taken by other people.
Today was set aside for vacuuming and dusting and that kindda stuff. Suffice to say, I sat in front of the laptop, tv, ironing board and washing machine for the majority of the day! I have tomorrow afternoon off work, therefore I will get that other crap done then!
Tonight I want to see Men with Brooms...its on the CBC...the Tragically Hip on a major film...should be a treat!
Why do weekends go so fast?

Missed a day

From the time I got home last night till we had to leave for dinner was approxamitely 30 minutes. Quick enough to have a quick rye and gingerale:) So off we went to The Last Chance for dinner with Roger and Roberta, Jim and Brenda and Rick and Colette. This is becoming somewhat of a routine now. So now we go there for steak night on Wednesdays, Friday night with the 'camp gang' and Saturday mornings after we get groceries. Man, we must be getting old.

Im kicking my ass that I didnt take my camera last night as we went out to the lodge for our friday night meeting and the grand poobah was kind of inebriated. It was funny to see him sitting there rubbing mky husbands head! Now let me explain, the lodge is what we call our friends, Harly & Judys garage. For some reason, all of us tend to congregate there. Last week we even celebrated New Years Eve there.

This afternoon I am getting my hair cut. Thank Gawd as its looking like a combination of sideshow bob meets chad kroger from mnickleback. Its awful! So I hope Joansie will perform her magic and make me look like a million bucks! (yea right)

Tonight, we will prolly stay at home and watch movies. Once again, old peoples activities rule!

And I still havnt taken any pics since Tuesday. I wish I had been off work yesterday, it was so beautiful and sunny earlier in the day...I would have loved to be out and taking a bunch of shots of snowcovered landscapes. Oh well...maybe tomorrow!

Thursday, January 06, 2005

its raining its snowing

Actually its freezing rain! Im wondering what it will be like in the morning. Tonight, my 45 minute drive home took 1 hr and 30 mins.
Today was a relatively quiet day at work. I attended a meeting with the offline department and spent the rest of my day doing audits.
Can you believe this is the second day in a row that I have not even taken my camera out of its bag. So unlike me, I used to take pictures each and everyday. Perhaps it is the time of year.
Hopefully we will go for a drive this weekend and I can take a few shots of something interesting.
One more sleep till FRYday!

hump day

This hasn't been a good day. I had a pile of work to do and blocked the rest of my department from my space for the majority of day. Then when I did emerge from my bubble, I got into an argument with my cousin. Not good. It makes me very sad. Anyways, life goes on.
I am thinking of hiring a small bus from McCoys and taking a group of people up to Toronto to see the Trews on the first Saturday in February. Logistically it is possible...But who can afford $30 for the trip up and back? Oh well, I have asked the people in the moderator section of the Betablokka board to see what they think. Hopefully I will receive a positive reply.
The Canadian Junior Hockey game last night was the shit!!! WOOT! The only hockey we may have all year !!!

The Kingston Water Tower from the K-Rock parking lot

Tuesdays just aren't as good as Fridays

Nothing exciting to report today. Started work at 7 so I could leave at 3:30 to pick up my gift certificate at Krock before they closed at 4. Its for Kelseys and my cousin Lynda Anne has already claimed it for our dinner on Friday night. Suffice to say, I do not want to be going out with a bunch of drunken crazy single women, so I will opt for an early dinner and then a quick birthday party. I must be getting too old for that bar-hopping scene.
There *is* one thing that makes this day special...The Canadian Junior Hockey Game!!! WOOT! The only hockey we may have this year.
I still haven't figured out how to post pictures with a post yet...So I will add one of the few pictures I took today in the next post.

No ice on the big lake yet.

Back to work

We forgot to set the alarm, so I sprung out of bed at 7:09am! Jumped on the 401 at 7:40 and were promply detoured off again at the next exit. Made it to work by 8:17 so all was good! Man, isnt it strange that our whole working lives are run by the almighty clock?
Today was just another frustrating day at work. Two of my favourite people have resigned from StarTek, which makes things more lonely for the vetrans such as myself. Then I was also informed that due to the fact that our days off fell on the holidays, we have been mandated to take three days off without pay within the next 3 months. AND we had to choose those days before the end of our shift today! Jebus...like I want to take time off WITHOUT PAY in the flippin winter time!
Anyways, I had to make myself feel better, so I stopped at the park across from Invista (celenease) and took a few pictures of the ferry coming across the lake. There was no wind, so the lights just kind of laid across the north channel. I love mild winters!

Day Two: The commitment continues.....

After looking back at the blog I started last april....it makes me wonder just how long i can stick this one out. Im wondering what I can take pictures of today as its very overcast and below zero. The vacuum is calling my name and I have avoided answering for the past three days. What excuse can I use today? I have 5 mins to evade the beastie!

Three hours later, my house is semi-clean. I want to go over to Napanee to wash my car as it was covered in mud from a few trips out doyle road over the weekend. You cant even tell what colour it is. And now that muddy mess is sealed with a layer of ice.

My dirty, ice covered car.

Another shot of the house that Mike grew up in. It is one of only 5 remaining family farms in Ontario, being run by the same family.
This picture was taken from the inside of Mikes workshop.
